I finished the zero draft of Lorem!!
Ah! Wait! Let me back up.
RAWR: Rogue's Amazing Word Rush. Hosted by Rogue Writers. October. Flexible goals. Great group. Fun events. I can't say enough good things about this, partly because there's just so much, and partly because I'm in a daze from finishing my draft.
In my last post, I mentioned that I wasn't sure what my word count goal should be. I just wanted to finish the zero draft that I started during last NaNoWriMo, so I was planning on having a more gentle word count for RAWR. Well boy howdy. I think I'm going to hit 50k anyways.
Shoutout to Trackbear for the incredible, flexible word count tracker! The leaderboard feature has been mission-critical for my steady progress this month.
I forgot how much fun it is to zero draft. Have I gotten stuck a few times? You bet. I had no idea where this story was going at points. But something about the freedom of a messy zero draft makes it so easy to just be ok with not knowing.
So, I've gone from around 63k to 98k in this draft and it's been fun.
And check out this last line:
Freedom would come. Agency would come. Lorem Ipsum Dolore would no longer be a placeholder in her own life.
For a zero draft, that ain't half bad, right?
Right now, I'm at around 44k for RAWR. But my draft is done. So! I think what I'm going to do is brainstorm a new project! My good friend Didi (who writes the Playful Pagan blog) had the idea to co-write a story, and I'm so jazzed to try to figure out how two writers make their crazy thought processes work together.
More to come on that, but for now, I'm just going to include my braindumps, worldbuilding, and other prep writing in my RAWR totals and I'm gonna hit 50k this month even when I didn't plan on it, dang it.
